How does PS Remote Play work?
PS Remote Play is a feature offered by Sony for its PlayStation gaming consoles, which allows you to stream your PS4 or PS5 games to compatible devices, such as smartphones, tablets, PCs, or Macs, over a Wi-Fi network. This means you can continue playing your favorite games even when you’re away from your console.
Setting Up PS Remote Play
To set up PS Remote Play, you need a compatible mobile device, a PS4, PS4 Pro, or PS5 console, an internet connection, and the PS Remote Play App. Download and install the app from Google Play or the App Store onto your device. This single app connects to both PS5 and PS4 consoles.
For PS5 Remote Play:
Navigate to Settings > System > Remote Play on the home screen, and enable Remote Play. To use Remote Play while the PS5 is in rest mode, go to Settings > System > Power Saving > Features Available in Rest Mode, and select Stay Connected to the Internet and Enable Turning on PS5 from Network.
For PS4 Remote Play:
From the function screen, access Settings > Remote Play Connection Settings, and enable Remote Play. Next, go to Settings > Account Management > Activate as Your Primary PS4, and choose Activate. This can only be enabled on one PS4 console per account. To use Remote Play while the PS4 is in rest mode, navigate to Settings > Power Save Settings > Set Features Available in Rest Mode, and enable Stay Connected to the Internet and Enable Turning on PS4 from Network.
Starting PS Remote Play on Your Mobile Device
Follow these steps each time you want to connect your mobile device to your PS5 or PS4 console:
- Turn on your console or set it to rest mode.
- Open the PS Remote Play app on your mobile device and select Sign In to PSN.
- Sign in using the same account associated with your console.
- Choose either PS5 or PS4.
The app will search for the console you’ve signed in to with your account and automatically connect. Once connected, your console’s screen will appear on your mobile device, allowing you to use PS Remote Play. If multiple consoles are detected, select the one you want to use.
After the initial setup, you can easily select the previously connected console for subsequent sessions.
